ABOUT DR. JARROUGE

Internal Medicine physician focused on metabolic disease.

I’m Dr. Elie Jarrouge, MD, a board-certified Internal Medicine physician focused on insulin resistance, obesity, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, fatty liver, high triglycerides, gout, and cardiometabolic risk.

My approach combines nutrition as therapy, therapeutic carbohydrate restriction, high-protein nutrition, resistance training, targeted metabolic testing, and medication when appropriate.

TRAINING + CLINICAL BACKGROUND

My clinical background shaped the way I practice today.

My medical training began in New York and continued at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, followed by nearly a decade caring for hospitalized patients. Over time, I became increasingly focused on the metabolic conditions that were driving so much of the chronic disease I was treating.

Medical school

Internal Medicine residency

Baylor College of Medicine
Internal Medicine Residency, 2008–2011

Hospital medicine → metabolic health

Nine years caring for hospitalized patients with acute illness and the downstream complications of chronic disease before shifting my clinical focus toward metabolic health.

HOW MY PRACTICE CHANGED

I became less interested in managing downstream numbers and more interested in what was driving them.

For years, I practiced the way I was trained: diagnose the condition, rule out obvious secondary causes, and treat the abnormal number or symptom. That approach can be necessary, and medication absolutely has a role.

But I kept seeing the same conditions cluster together: obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, fatty liver, high triglycerides, gout, and cardiovascular disease. The more I looked, the harder it became to see them as completely separate problems.

That shift changed the way I practice. I now spend much more time identifying the metabolic patterns connecting these conditions and using nutrition, body-composition improvement, resistance training, targeted testing, and medication when appropriate to address them more upstream.

The goal is controlled blood pressure and better metabolic health, with the least medication necessary to do that safely.

MY STORY

My own health journey changed the way I practice medicine.

In my early 30s, I gained about 35 pounds and developed high blood pressure, worsening blood sugar, and recurrent severe back pain. I was practicing medicine, but my own health was moving in the wrong direction.

Changing the way I ate changed that trajectory. I moved from a whole-food approach to low-carb and then ketogenic nutrition, eventually incorporating fasting and a more animal-based way of eating. I lost the excess weight, my blood pressure and glucose normalized, and the severe back pain resolved.

What struck me most was that these problems did not improve independently. They improved together. That experience profoundly influenced how I began thinking about chronic metabolic disease.

WHERE I SEE PATIENTS

One clinical approach, two care paths.

I work with patients in the United States by telehealth and see patients in person in Dubai.

The location changes, but the clinical philosophy does not.

UNITED STATES

Physician-led metabolic care by telehealth

For patients in states where I am licensed, I provide comprehensive metabolic care remotely, including assessment, testing, nutrition strategy, medication management, and ongoing follow-up.

DUBAI

Comprehensive metabolic care in Dubai

I see patients in person in Dubai for metabolic health assessment, targeted testing, treatment planning, and follow-up care.

READY TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP?

Choose the care path that fits where you live.

Whether you work with me by telehealth in the United States or in person in Dubai, the goal is the same: understand the full metabolic picture and build a treatment plan around it.
